Hello Bird People,
Went with Bob Erickson today to try once again to see a Yellow Crowned
Night Heron.
I sat by the Night Heron feeding area at River Park & Bob walked the
Ronan Park area along the river. No Yellow Crowned Night Herons were
seen. Here's what I saw at River Park:
D.C. Cormorant (3)
Great Blue Heron (1)
Black Crowned Night Heron (12)
Green Heron (1)
Canada Goose (3)
Mallard (5)
Chimney Swift (3)
Ring Billed (2) & Herring (1) Gulls
Rough Winged (2) & Barn (4) Swallows
Crow (3)
Robin (6)
Warbling Vireo (H-1)
Common Yellowthroat (H-1)
Song Sparrow (3)
Red Wings (4) & Grackles (5)
House Sparrow (6)
When by himself walking Ronan Park along the river Bob also had a
Caspian Tern & 2 Kingfishers.
Lincoln Park Zoo from Stockton Drive (8:30-9:45 am)
Black Crowned Night Heron (~25 with many large young ones)
YELLOW CROWNED NIGHT HERON (1-AD) (In a tall tree seen from Stockton Drive)
(I don't know how Bob found this guy as it was really hidden but he did!)
Ring Billed (5) & Herring (2) Gulls
Pigeons (6)
Catbird (1), Robins (7), Red Wings (2), Grackles (8) & House Sparrow (10)
So 24 species for the day plus 1 roadside addition for a final total of 25.
Bird-Of-The-Day will be the Yellow Crowned Night Heron which without
Bob's help I never would have seen. Runner-Up to the one Green Heron
seen at River Park.
I still need to find a Sedge Wren & a Clay Colored Sparrow for my year
list so I think I will try for one of them tomorrow.
