to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,

Guess I'm finally getting a little worn out as when the alarm went off
at 5 am I proceeded to go back to sleep until 6:30. Too many days of
4:30 & 5 am wake ups.

So I changed plans & went to Dan Wright Woods in hopes of a Barred
Owl, White Eyed Vireos & even a Cerulean Warbler all of which have
been seen or heard here lately. But I found none of those birds & had
to settle for good looks at both Acadian Flycatchers along the river
near the bridge.

Dan Wright (9:15-11:30 am)

Mallard (2)
Mourning Dove (2)
Red Headed (4) & Red Bellied (H-2) Woodpeckers
Downy Woodpecker (H-1)
Flicker (2-3)
Eastern Pewee (H-2)
ACADIAN FLYCATCHER (2)
Eastern Phoebe (H-1)
Great Crested Flycatcher (5)
Blue Jay (1)
Chickadee (2) & W.B. Nuthatch (3)
Robin (10)
Catbird (3)
Red Eyed Vireo (3)
Yellow Warbler (H-1)
Common Yellowthroat (3)
Cardinal (H-1)
Indigo Bunting (H-2)
Song Sparrow (1)
Red Wings (2), Grackles (4) & Cowbirds (3)
Baltimore Oriole (H-1)

I should mention that Eric J was leaving as I arrived & had seen/heard
3 species of Warblers including 2 Hooded Warblers but they had all
stopped singing by my arrival. If you want to hear singing Warblers at
this time of year arrive early as they don't sing for long except for
Yellow Warblers & Common Yellowthroats.

Next I was thinking about how I have only seen one Ruby Throated
Hummer all Spring so I stopped at River Trail Nature Center as they
have Hummer feeders and much to my surprise they also still have the
regular feeders up as well.

River Trail N.C. (12:30-1 pm)

Osprey (1, on the nest platform across the river to the west)
RUBY THROATED HUMMER (1, came to the feeder twice at 10 min intervals)
Red Bellied Woodpecker (1)
Downy Woodpecker (1-F)
Blue Jay (1, at the peanut feeder)
W.B. Nuthatch (1)
Robin (2)
Cardinal (H-1)
Red Wings (3) & Grackle (1)
House Finch (2-3)
House Sparrow (10-12)

So 29 species for the day at my 2 locations plus 2 roadside additions
for a day's total of 31.
Bird-Of-The-Day will be the 2 Acadian Flycatchers & Runners-Up to the
Osprey & the Hummingbird.
