Hello Bird People,
I haven't done many reports lately as I've been in semi-hibernation
due to the snow, wind & cold. But I have done some birding, It just
seemed I had nothing worth reporting. Didn't see anything special
today either at River Trail N.C. but maybe it's worth a report to show
what's coming in at those feeders.
River Trail Nature Center (9:40-11 am)
Mourning Dove (only 1)
Red Bellied Woodpecker (1-M & 1-F)
Downy Woodpecker (1-M & 1-F)
Hairy Woodpecker (also 1-M & 1-F)
Blue Jay (2)
Chickadee (3)
W.B. Nuthatch (2)
Cardinal (5)
Tree Sparrow (7)
WHITE THROATED SPARROW (2)
Junco (8)
House Finch (2)
Goldfinch (11)
House Sparrow (~35)
I did NOT see the male Purple Finch which sometimes shows up here.
Did see 14 species at the Center & added 2 more roadside additions for
a day's total of 16.
Bird-Of-The-Day will be the 2 White Throated Sparrows & Runner-Up the
Hairy Woodpeckers.
Birds have been in short supply for me lately but I should mention
that a couple of days ago I saw license plates from Arkansas, South
Dakota &, best of all, from Washington D.C.
Also saw a plate from Wisconsin that said it was about The Ice Age
Trail & had a drawing of a Woolly Mammoth which I thought was pretty
interesting.
