Hello Bird People,
Started by going to Lake Glenview, Techny Basin & Techny North. After
lunch I covered Beck Lake, Big Bend Lake, Lake Opeka & Axehead Lake.
Got to see 8 duck species, 7 Loons & 2 Grebe species & a new shorebird
species. Only the highlights will follow.
Lake Glenview (8:15-9:15 am)
Horned (3) & Pied Billed (1) Grebes
Mallard (14), Lesser Scaup (3) & Red Breasted Merganser (11)
Coot (1)
Ring Billed (4) & Herring (2) Gulls
Techny Basin (9:30-10:45 am)
Horned Grebe (2)
Canada Goose (4), Mallard (19) & Shoveler (10)
Ring Necked Duck (23), Lesser Scaup (1-M) & Red Breasted Merganser (1-M)

Ring Billed Gull (2)
Techny North (11-11:30 am)
Mallard (3) & Green Winged Teal (3-PR)
Killdeer (4)

Red Tailed Hawk (2)
Beck Lake (12:45-12:55 pm)

Coots (2) & Ring Billed Gull (9)
Big Bend Lake (1-1:35 pm)
Common Loon (2), Great Blue Heron (3) & D.C. Cormorant (2)
Red Breasted Merganser (445) (That's a lot of Mergansers!)
Ring Billed (75) & Herring (4) Gulls
Kingfisher (1)
Lake Opeka (2-2:30 pm)
All water birds were disrupted by a motor boat that drove around the
lake at high speeds.
Common Loon (5), Horned (4) & P.B. (1) Grebes
Canada Goose (30), Mallard (18) & Gadwall (2)
Lesser Scaup & Red Breasted Mergansers (most were flushed by the speeding boat)
Ring Billed (32) & Herring (4) Gulls
Axehead Lake (2:40-3:20 pm)
Canada Goose (2) & Mallard (1-PR)
Lesser Scaup (41) & Red Breasted Merganser (74)
Horned (1) & Pied Billed (2) Grebes
So a lot of travelling got me 37 species for the day.
Bird-Of-The-Day will be the early Lesser Yellowlegs & Runners-Up will
be all the Loons & Grebes.
