Hello Bird People,
Only did a lake watch for an hour & saw a fair number of ducks but
almost all were too far out to identify. Did I.D. some Pintails but
that was it. I see that Owen & Karen W were also present & did much
better than I did with many ducks identified. Wish I had found them as
Owen is much better than I am at distant viewing. Then did land birds
& I saw pretty much the same birds as Owen did.
Gillson Park (7:30-11:30 am)
D.C. Cormorant (1 fly-by)
Canada Goose (18, lawns)
Mallard (2, harbor)
Pintail (8 fly-bys)
Cooper's Hawk (1)
Ring Billed (25) & Herring (30) Gulls
Red Bellied Woodpecker (H-1)
Downy Woodpecker (H-1)
Blue Jay (4)
Red Breasted Nuthatch (H-1)
Brown Creeper (9-10)
Winter Wren (2)
Golden Crowned Kinglet (6)
Ruby Crowned Kinglet (1)
Hermit Thrush (6-7)
Robin (4)
Yellow Rumped Myrtle Warbler (4)
Palm Warbler (3)
Cardinal (1)
Song Sparrow (1)
White Crowned Sparrow (~20)
White Throated Sparrow (9)
Junco (~70)
Goldfinch (4)
House Sparrow (~10)
So 26 species today at Gillson Park with no roadside additions.
Bird-Of-The-Day will be all those Creepers as there were a lot of them
& I am fond of that species. Besides I missed the Surf Scoters that
Owen & Karen saw. Runner-Up to the
Winter Wrens. Spent a lot of time trying to find a Harris's Sparrow in
the big Junco & Sparrow flocks but failed.
