to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,
Saw on ebird that shorebirds were still around at Muirhead so that's
where I went today.
Targets were White Fronted Geese & Dunlin. Took a while but I did see
one Dunlin but found no White Fronted Geese. However as a replacement
I saw & heard a TRUMPETER SWAN as it flew south. Also by the Bahr Rd
parking lot I saw a Brown Creeper which proved to be a new bird for
this site. Biggest disappointment was when the big duck flock all
flushed before I could check them out & I only saw most of them in
flight. So no counts for the ducks.
Muirhead Springs (7:45-11:45 am)

Sandhill Crane (1 & heard more)
Killdeer (39)
Greater Yellowlegs (2)

Long Billed Dowitcher (2)
Wilson's Snipe (6)
(Others saw Pectorals but I missed them today)

Red Bellied Woodpecker (1)
Blue Jay (3)
Crow (2)
Chickadee (2)
BROWN CREEPER (1, by the Bahr Rd lot)
Marsh Wren (1)
Robin (3)
Starling (12-14)

Palm Warbler (2)
Yellow Rumped Myrtle Warbler (1)
Savannah Sparrow (8)

So 39 species for the day although had I been able to work the duck
flock I would probably have had more. Also roadside Pigeons for a
day's total of 40.
Bird-Of-The-Day to the calling Trumpeter Swan & Runners-Up to the
Dunlin, the Dowitchers & the Pipits.
License Plate Of The Day to my 2nd Alaska plate seen in October on Rt
20 on the way home.
