Since I last mentioned it last Saturday, a number of spots in Cook County where we didn't have anyone visiting yet for the Spring Bird Count on Saturday, have now had birders volunteer to visit.

Below is a list of spots that still could use someone to stop by and check what birds are present on Saturday (even an hour stop is better than none).

Of course if you are birding elsewhere in the county with others, those birds/checklists will still be helpful for the count.

Help is still currently needed counting birds at the following Cook County locations:

Cook County Forest Preserves:

  • Bluff Spring Fen NP

  • White Eagle Woods FP

  • Allison Woods FP

  • Campground Road Woods FP

  • Northwestern Woods/Des Plaines Riverwalk

  • Lions Woods FP

  • Chippily Woods FP

  • Dan Ryan Woods FP

  • Hickory Hill Woods FP

  • Vollmer Road Grove FP

  • North Creek Meadow FP

  • Carl Hansen Woods/Arthur Janura Preserve FP

  • Willow and Sanders FPD property

Chicago Parks: (we may have someone who can stop at some of these, but not confirmed yet)

  • Marquette Park

  • Palmisano Park

  • Tom Ping Park

  • Canal Origins Park

  • Park No. 571/Bubbly Creek

Other City Parks and Locations:

  • Calumet area: Heron Pond (south side of 122nd

    St., west of Torrence)

  • Harborside Golf Course overlook on Lake Calumet

  • Powderhorn Lake

  • O’Brien Lock and Dam

  • Stillman Nature Center

  • Lake Arlington

  • Olympic Park, Schaumburg

  • Izaak Walton Park, Prospect Heights

  • Heritage Park, Wheeling

  • South Barrington Conservancy (Bartlett Road N of Higgins)

Cemeteries: (which can also be pretty good bird spots during migration).

Thus far we HAVE volunteers willing to count birds in the following cemeteries: Rosehill, Graceland, Mount Olive, Elmwood and Oak Woods.

If you care to visit any OTHER cemeteries near where you live, and count birds there, let us know which ones.

Thanks to all who have volunteered already!
Sincerely,
Alan Anderson, casre...@comcast.net Des Plaines
