This is just a heads up that there is a bill in Springfield to ban the declawing of cats. A big front page article in the Tribune today never mentioned the issue of cats killing birds.

I didn't read the article, but presumably they are talking about people who keep cats in their homes (hence why worry about declawing them). I and most cat owners I know clip the claws regularly.

I read the article. I've had cats (indoor only) my entire life. I support the ban. Declawing is cruel. In my public speaking about creating bird habitat in our own backyards, I mention the importance of keeping cats INDOOR ONLY... as well as the stats on the number of birds killed each year in the US by outdoor cats. Hopefully the public will shift away from allowing their cats outside.
