to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,
Only had time to visit a couple of places today but Air Station
Prairie & Techny North had all the water refrozen & so no ducks. So
the only place I'll report on will be Lake Opeka.
Lake Opeka (10:50-11:15 am) (Scoped the entire lake from the boat launch area).
Canada Goose (44)
Mallard (30-35)
Redhead (3-M)
Ring Necked Duck (3-M, continuing)
Lesser Scaup (2-M)
Goldeneye (23)
Red Breasted Merganser (57)
Ring Billed Gull (6)
Herring Gull (3)
The Gulls like to sit on the ice but now there isn't any ice so they
are harder to see & count.
Only had 9 species at Opeka plus 3 roadside additions for a small
total of 12 for the day.
Bird-Of-The-Day will be the Redheads as they were the only new arrivals.
Runners-Up to the Ring Necked Ducks which have been here for about 3 days now.
Bird totals were pretty weak today but :License Plate Of The Day was
an important one as I saw one from HAWAII in my home town of Park
Ridge. That doesn't happen very often. Come to think of it, I don't
see them ANYWHERE very often.
