to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,
Well what do you do when it rains all morning? The answer today was to
go to Jackson Park & pick up a new Illinois State Lifer. Pretty much
stayed under the golf concession shelter between the driving range &
the lagoon as that's where the TROPICAL KINGBIRD was the whole time we
were there. Went with Bob Erickson & David Johnson but there were as
many as 15 birders all looking at the Kingbird at any given time.
Didn't see much of anything else & only had 11 species for the day but
when you have over 400 species in Illinois adding one more is a big
deal.
Bird-Of-The-Day is, of course, that Tropical Kingbird which is #412
for me in Illinois. As I get less & less able to get to see rare
species each addition is a victory. And I always enjoy seeing the many
birders who always show up at these rare bird sightings so we can talk
about the "good old days".
