Hello Bird People,
Covered North Point Marina by the yacht club building with Andy
Stewart, Eric Johnson & Bob Erickson. Then Bob & I covered the area
south of the harbor which was so ice covered you could hardly walk it.
Saw lots of ducks & gulls.
North Point Marina (7:35-10:15 am)
Canada Goose (~350)
Mallard (22)
Greater (5) & Lesser (1-F) Scaup
Redhead (16)
CANVASBACK (1-M)
Goldeneye (~30)
Bufflehead (6-8)
Common (6-M) & Red Breasted (10) Mergansers
Ruddy Duck (4)
Coot (1, a Winter Coot)
Ring Billed Gull (4)
Herring Gull (~450)
Thayer's Gull (2)
Iceland Gull (1, 1st year)
Lesser Black Backed Gull (1-AD) (Seen at 10 am)
GREAT BLACK BACKED GULL (1, 1st year) (Also seen at 10 am)
Blue Jay (2), Chickadee (1) & W.B. Nuthatch (1)
Starling (4)
Tree Sparrow (5)
House Sparrow (4)
On the way home I checked Axehead Lake where the late Common Loon
continues in spite of less open water & more ice. Hope the warmer
weather slows down the freeze up!
So 27 species for the day including add-ons. Bird-Of-The-Day to the
young Great Black Backed Gull & Runner-Up to the equally young Iceland
Gull.
