to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,
Covered 6 small lakes in Cook County today & although I didn't find
anything exciting the variety of birds was enough to keep me
interested. And I did see 9 species of ducks.
Lake Glenview (9-10 am)
Canada Goose (96) & Mallard (3-PR)
Redhead (4-M & 5-F)
Red Breasted Merganser (27)
Ring Billed (8) & Herring (3) Gulls
Mourning Dove (4)
Cardinal (H-1), Red Wings (6), GRACKLE (1) & House Sparrow (11)
Air Station Prairie (10:05-10:45 am)
Canada Goose (2) & Mallard (16)
Mourning Dove (4)
Robin (8), Starling (11), Junco (1) & Red Wings (~25)
Techny North (11-11:20 am) (water has opened up again)
Mallard (9)
Green Winged Teal (2-M)
Black Duck (3) plus the usual Hybrid with the green head
Kestrel (1-M with a dead mouse)
Mourning Dove (1) & Red Wings (4)
Wood Oaks Green Park (12:15-12:25 pm)
Mallard (2-PR) & Red Breasted Merganser (34)
Ring Billed (11) & Herring (2) Gulls
Lake Opeka (1-1:30 pm) (Pretty much the same ducks as before)
Canada Goose (42) & Mallard (45)
Redhead (21), Ring Necked Duck (23) & Lesser Scaup (29)
Goldeneye (19)
Common (1-M) & Red Breasted (6-M) Mergansers
Ring Billed (6) & Herring (1) Gulls
(I keep looking for a Scoter or 2 but haven't seen any)
Axehead Lake (1:35-1:45 pm) (Yesterday's diving ducks were gone)
Canada Goose (4), Mallard (7) & Pigeons (~80)
So 22 species for the day plus a roadside Red Tailed Hawk for a total of 23.
Bird-Of-The-Day will be the lone Grackle at Lake Glenview & Runner-Up
to the Kestrel with the mouse.
