to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,
Back to the Wood Dale Reservoir & didn't do as well as 2 days ago.
Only had 4 shorebird species at the reservoir & 6 at the
Itasca/Western Wetlands for a total of 7 shorebird species altogether.
I was with Luis M for the whole visit & also with Jayne L & Dan for
part of the visit.
Here's what we saw:
Wood Dale Reservoir Complex (6:50-10:30 a.m.)
Reservoir Only
D.C. Cormorant (5)
Great Blue Heron (4), Great Egret (3), Green Heron (1) & Black Crowned
Night Heron (1-juv)
Canada Goose (42) & Mallard (7)
Killdeer (16) & Semipalmated Plover (1)
Lesser Yellowlegs (1)
Spotted Sandpiper (4)
Ring Billed (35) & Herring (1) Gulls
Caspian Tern (21)
Red Tailed Hawk (1 young one)
Middle Pond
D.C. Cormorant (2), Great Blue Heron (1) & Red Tailed Hawk (1-PR)
Itasca/Western Wetlands
Great Blue Heron (1) & Great Egret (4)
Mallard (18)
Killdeer (22) & Lesser Yellowlegs (3)
Solitary (3), Spotted (2), Semipalmated (1) & Least (10-12) Sandpipers
Land Birds
Mourning Dove (7), Ruby Throated Hummer (1), Hairy Woodpecker (1),
Flicker (H-2),
Eastern Kingbird (4), Barn Swallow (3), Blue Jay (5), Crow (1),
Chickadee (H-2),
W.B. Nuthatch (1), House Wren (1), B.G. Gnatcatcher (2), Robin (9),
Gray Catbird (2),
Brown Thrasher (1), Warbling Vireo (3), Yellow Warbler (2-3), Common
Yellowthroat (H-1),
Cardinal (3), Indigo Bunting (H-1), Dickcissel (1), Savannah (1) &
Song (16) Sparrows,
Red Wings (18), Grackle (2), Cowbird (1), Baltimore Oriole (1-M),
House Finch (1),
Goldfinch (8) & House Sparrow (4)
Had 47 species for the day & I guess Bird-Of-The-Day will be the
Semipalmated Plover.
Runners-Up to the Brown Thrasher, the Baltimore Oriole & the
continuing Dickcissel.
