to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,
After 2 days with a lot of driving I just stayed local & went to
Montrose, but I sure didn't see much & missed 3 birds that others saw
there today. Can't have a good day every day I guess.
Montrose Harbor. Lakefront & Hedge Area Saturday 2-28-26
Horned Grebe (2, maybe 3)
Canada Goose (30-35)
Mallard (27)
Greater Scaup (1-M & 2-F)
Redhead (2-M & 1-F)
Goldeneye (15-18)
Red Breasted Merganser (50-55)
Coots (4)
Ring Billed (~45) & Herring (6) Gulls
Chickadee (3)
Robin (2)
Starling (26, all in one flock)
Cardinal (4-M)
Tree Sparrow (2)
Junco (5)
House Sparrow (30-35)
The three species that others saw but I missed were Long Tailed Duck,
Black Duck & Grackle.
Only had 17 species at Montrose plus 2 roadside additions for a day's
total of 19.
Bird-Of-The-Day will be the Horned Grebes & Runner-Up to the Redheads.
Good License plates while going to & from Montrose were from Maine,
North Dakota & Vermont.
