What a warm and wonderful surprise this cold, snowy morning to open the New York Times and find this end-of-year feature on successful conservation initiatives across the country, including our very own Montrose Beach Dunes and Piping Plovers Monty and Rose (fourth item down). I'm especially moved at the mention of the 3.1-acre habitat addition, which was my idea and for which, after the Chicago Park District's initial flat-out refusal, I advocated hard for over a year along with scores of volunteers.
