to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,
Well today's visit to the Kendall County Sod farms was a tough
assignment but doing this report will be easy as we saw very few
species for the day. It took Bob E & I almost 2 hours to drive there &
then it took 2 hours & 20 min to actually find the main target bird.
We were joined by Aaron G at all 3 sod farms that we searched.
The 3 sod farms we covered were Newark Road, Brisbin Road & the larger
Wheeler Road sod farms.
Newark Road (9-10 am)
Killdeer (~45)
GOLDEN PLOVER (4)
Barn Swallow (~10)
Starling (~25)
BREWER'S BLACKBIRD (3)
Brisbin Road (10-10:15 am)
Killdeer (~20)
Horned Lark (1)
Starling (6-8)
Wheeler Road (10:20-11:20 am)
Killdeer (35)
GOLDEN PLOVER (2, west of Schlapp Road)
BUFF BREASTED SANDPIPER (2, 1 1/2 to 2 miles east of Schlapp Road)
Starling (~15)
Took forever to locate the Buff Breasted Sandpipers & at 1st I only
saw 1 at a distance but lucky for us it flew much closer & brought a
friend with it so we saw 2 of them at very close range.
Sometimes everything works out well.
So only 7 species at the sod farms plus 3 more roadside additions for
a small total of 10 species for the day. But that's ok as we found
what we set out to find.
Bird-Of-The-Day to the Buff Breasted Sandpipers & Runners-Up to the
Golden Plovers & the
Brewer's Blackbirds.
