to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,
With Techny Basin & Wood Dale Reservoir already with too much water
before last night's heavy rains & with Techny North now almost
certainly under water after those rains I decided to check on Baker's
Lake to see if any of the Pelicans were still present. Only stayed
25-30 min at the north overlook off Hillside so a short report for
today.
Baker's Lake (10:25-10:45 a.m.)
WHITE PELICAN (5, scattered)
D.C. Cormorant (250-275)
Great Blue Heron (8)
Great Egret (74, exact count)
Canada Goose (17)
Mallard (6)
Killdeer (4)
Spotted Sandpiper (1, probable, too far to be sure)
Ring Billed Gull (5)
Caspian Tern (36, that's a lot of Caspian Terns)
Mourning Dove (1)
Flicker, Blue Jay & Goldfinch (all heard one)
Red Wings (3)
So only 15 species for my short days birding.
Bird-Of-The-Day to the Pelicans & Runners-Up to all those Caspian Terns.
And the baby Prius is back at full hybrid strength giving me 40 miles
of 68 miles per gallon.
It's going to have to do that often to make up for all the money it
cost me to get it fixed!
