Hello Bird People,
Another poor day weather wise with rain & snow for the whole day. I
just checked three small lakes either from the car or at Opeka from
the shelter which has a roof allowing me to use my scope.
Axehead Lake (10:15-10:45 am)
Pied Billed Grebe (1)
Canada Goose (2)
Mallard (2-M & 1-F)
Lesser Scaup (22)
Goldeneye (1-M & 1-F)
Red Breasted Merganser (123)
Common Merganser (2-F)
Herring Gull (2-AD)
Pigeon (~35), Robin (26), Cardinal (H-1) & Red Wing (1-M)
Lake Opeka (10:55-11:30 am)
Canada Goose (only 6)
Mallard (~35)
GADWALL (2-M & 1-F)
Lesser Scaup (55), Redhead (5) & Ring Necked Duck (1-PR)
Goldeneye (3)
Common (1-M) & Red Breasted (19) Mergansers
Ring Billed (55) & Herring (2) Gulls
Coot (1)
Mourning Dove (3), Crow (1), Robin (2), House Finch (1, singing) &
House Sparrow (~12)
Beck Lake (12:30-12:45 pm)
Canada Goose (13) & Mallard (17)
Red Breasted Merganser (1-PR)
(There were 365 Mergansers here last time but only 2 today?)
RUDDY DUCK (1-M)
Robin (1), Red Wings (4) & Grackles (15)
So only 23 species at my three lakes plus one roadside addition for a
day's total of 24.
Bird-Of-The-Day will be the Pied Billed Grebe as few have arrived so far.
Runners-Up to the Gadwall & the Ruddy Duck.
