Hello Bird People,
Did my weekly visit to Wood Dale with Luis M. Had 3 shorebird species
& 4 duck species.
Didn't see anything really special but after 4 hours we had lots to look at.
Wood Dale Complex (7:30-11:30 am)
Reservoir Only
D.C. Cormorant (11)
Great Blue Heron (3)
Great Egret (4)
Canada Goose (370, counted by Luis)
Mallard (8)
Green Winged Teal (8)
Killdeer (15)
Pectoral Sandpiper (1)
Wilson's Snipe (1)
Ring Billed Gull (23)
Cooper's Hawk (1-AD)
Kingfisher (1)
Middle Pond
D.C. Cormorant (27)
Great Egret (1 fly-by)
Mallard (2)
Herring Gull (1 fly-by)
Red Tailed Hawk (1)
Kestrel (1-M)
Kingfisher (1-M & 1-F)
Itasca/Western Wetlands
D.C. Cormorant (1 fly-by)
Great Blue Heron (1)
Great Egret (14, that's a lot of Egrets!)
Wood Duck (6)
Mallard (32)
Green Winged Teal (2)
Blue Winged Teal (2)
Landbirds
Had 23 species of landbirds with most interesting being a Yellow
Bellied Sapsucker, an Eastern Phoebe, a Red Breasted Nuthatch & a
Hermit Thrush. Had only Palm & Yellow Rumped for warblers & 4 species
of common sparrows.
So 40 species at Wood Dale plus roadside Pigeons for a day's total of 41.
Bird-Of-The-Day will be the Sapsucker & Runner-Up the Eastern Phoebe &
the Hermit Thrush.
