to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,
Since David Johnson & Alan Anderson both had good totals on their
checklists from yesterday I thought I'd give it a try today. And
although I didn't see as many species as they did I still had a good
variety of species & had plenty to look at.
Chicago Botanic Garden (8:15-11:30 am)
D.C. Cormorant (2 fly-bys)
Great Blue Heron (2)
Great Egret (also 2)
Canada Goose (75, all at the mudflats & the Northern Lake)
Mallard (10)
(No Wood Ducks today as I didn't make it to the B. Brown Reserve Pond)
Killdeer (10)
Pectoral Sandpiper (1, finally a shorebird here that wasn't a Killdeer)
Osprey (1, calling from the nest platform, probably the young one)
Red Tailed Hawk (1)
Mourning Dove (2)
RUBY THROATED HUMMER (3-4)
Kingfisher (1)
Red Bellied Woodpecker (2)
Flicker (2)
Blue Jay (4)
Chickadee (H-1)
White Breasted Nuthatch (2)
Red Breasted Nuthatch (H-1)
GRAY CHEEKED THRUSH (1)
Swainson's Thrush (4)
Robin (6)
(Thrush Species=2)
Starling (3)
Warbling Vireo (H-2)
Nashville Warbler (1)
Bay Breasted Warbler (1)
CAPE MAY WARBLER (1)
Cardinal (1-M)
Song Sparrow (3)
Goldfinch (8)
House Sparrow (6)
So 30 species at the CBG plus roadside Pigeons for a day's total of 31.
Bird-Of-The-Day to the nice looking Cape May Warbler & Runners-Up to
the Kingfisher, the Osprey. & the Hummingbirds.
