Went with Luis M today to look for White Rumped Sandpipers which were seen here yesterday but they were no shows today. Shorebirds seen today at Wood Dale Reservoir were Killdeer, Semipalmated Plover, Spotted, Least & Semipalmated Sandpipers. Also four Dunlin in full breeding plumage. At the Itasca Wetlands section we added one Lesser Yellowlegs.
Raptors were a hunting Osprey & a resting Bald Eagle. Heron/Egrets were Great Blues, Great Egrets & one Green Heron. Swallows were Tree, Rough Winged, Cliff & Barn.
Some interesting land birds were a Kingfisher, a Cedar Waxwing & an Indigo Bunting. We saw four Willow Flycatchers & six Warbling Vireos. There were three pair of adult Canada Geese with ten young ones of various sizes.
Techny North & Techny Basin had few shorebirds other than Killdeer & Spotted Sandpipers. Techny North did have one each Semipalmated Plover & Dunlin.
But Bird-Of-The-Day will be a fly-by Black Crowned Night Heron heading across the road & into Axehead Lake. Runners-Up will be the Osprey & the Bald Eagle.
