to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,

Back to birding early to beat the heat but not much seen today except
the same birds I've been seeing every time I visit here.

Chicago Botanic Garden (7:45-10:30 am)

At the Mudflats:

D.C. Cormorant (1 fly-by)
Great Blue Heron (a family of 4 at the mudflats & 1 more by Evening Island)
Great Egret (1)
Canada Goose (28)
Mallard (6)
Killdeer (22)
Solitary (4) & Spotted (2) Sandpipers
Least (8) & Semipalmated (2) Sandpipers
Caspian Tern (8-AD & 1-IM)
Mourning Dove (4-6)
Kingfisher (1)
Rough Winged (2), Cliff (2) & Barn (8) Swallows
Marsh Wren (H-1, by the Cattails)
Red Wings (4)

Areas Not At The Mudflats:

Ruby Throated Hummer (2)
Eastern Pewee (H-1)
Chickadee (H-1)
House Wren (H-1)
Purple Martin (a few adults still bringing food to the young in the
Martin houses)
Robin (20-25)
Common Yellowthroat (1)
Cardinal (H-2)
Song Sparrow (8-10)
Grackle (1)
Goldfinch (5)
House Sparrow (10-12)

So if I did that right I had 30 species at the Garden plus two
roadside additions for a total of 32.
Bird-Of-The-Day will be the Great Blue Heron family, 2 adults & 2
young at the mudflats.
Runner-Up to the 2 Hummingbirds & the Kingfisher.

Good license plates were Nevada at the Garden & North Dakota on Oakton Street.
