Hello Bird People,
Hurried to Montrose in the hopes that last evenings Buff Breasted
Sandpiper would still be around but that did not happen. In fast there
were hardly any shorebirds except for 10 Killdeer.
Highlights included a flying Osprey, the all white Pigeon & a fly-by
AMERICAN BITTERN 1st spotted by Cody P as it flew along the pier.
Montrose Beach & Dunes (6-10 am)
Great Blue Heron (1 & 1 fly-by)
AMERICAN BITTERN (1 fly-by)
Canada Goose (12 fly-bys)
Mallard (1-F)
Killdeer (10)
Spotted Sandpiper (2)
Least (1) & Semipalmated (2) Sandpipers
Ring Billed (~150) & Herring (7) Gulls
OSPREY (1 fly-by)
Cooper's Hawk (1)
Pigeon (the all white bird that has been here for a while)
Purple Martin (2) & Barn Swallow (10-12)
Song Sparrow (1)
House Finch (4) & Goldfinch (2)
House Sparrow (4)
Saw some reports about flying Nighthawks so I did a Nighthawk watch
from my driveway.
But in 90 min I saw no Nighthawks although I did see one Pigeon, 3
Mourning Doves, 2
Chimney Swifts, one Robin & 2 House Sparrows plus one Gull species.
Also saw a few Butterflies, a few Dragonflies & quite a few Cicadas.
I'll try again for Nighthawks later.
So 25 species for the day. Bird-Of-The-Day will be the Bittern &
Runners-Up will be the Osprey & the all white Dove.
