to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,
Bob Erickson & I made our annual trip to check out the Kendall County
sod farms today.
Saw very few birds overall but did see the 2 species we went to see.
Walker Road Sod Farms (7:45-8:30 am)
Great Blue Heron (1, in a small pond)
NORTHERN HARRIER (1-M, hunting the sod fields)
GOLDEN PLOVER (5)
Killdeer (~75)
BUFF BREASTED SANDPIPER (9)
(Came back for a 2nd look & saw 4 much closer than on out 1st try)
Starling (~60)
BREWER'S BLACKBIRD (2-M)
Wheeler Road Sod Farms (8:35-9:30 am)
GOLDEN PLOVER (18-20)
Killdeer (~30)
Mourning Dove (10)
EURASIAN COLLARED DOVE (1)
Barn Swallow (~35)
Robin (5)
Starling (15-20)
(For some reason we didn't find any Horned Larks, must have just missed them)
So only 11 species plus roadside Pigeons for a low day's total of 12.
Bird-Of-The-Day to the Buff Breasted Sandpipers & Runners-Up to the
male Harrier, the
Golden Plovers & the Collared Dove.
