Hello Bird People,
I am in the middle of getting my house repaired as a cracked
foundation & leaking water have caused quite a bit of damage. So I can
only go birding after I stay to unlock the garage in the morning. So
no early starts & I can't stay away for too long. This should continue
for another week or so & my reports will reflect this situation.
Techny North (9-10:30 am)
Looking to the north the main mudflat is making a comeback but the
side mudflats are still under water. Some shorebirds today but not
many & only 2 common species.
D.C. Cormorant (1 in the Cormorant tree)
Great Blue Heron (1)
Great Egret (also 1)
Canada Goose (a flock of 28 plus the one Goose who always seems to be here)
Mallard (2-F with groups of 6 & 4 young)
Killdeer (12)
Least Sandpiper (6, later arrivals)
Turkey Vulture (1 fly-by)
Osprey (2 or 3)
Red Tailed Hawk (2)
Kestrel (2)
Kingfisher (1, caught a small fish)
Blue Jay, Crow, Robin, Catbird, Cardinal & Goldfinch (all heard only)
So only 18 species at Techny North plus 3 roadside additions for a
day's total of 21.
Bird-Of-The-Day will be the Ospreys & Runner-Up the fish catching Kingfisher.
