to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,
Montrose had so many birds yesterday I thought I'd try again today.
Bird numbers seemed a little less than yesterday but still lots of
warblers & I had about the same number of species as yesterday.
Montrose Point (6:45-11:15)
Great Blue Heron (1 fly-by)
Canada Goose (~65, on the beach 1st thing)
Mallard (2)
Coot (1, in the fish hook)
BLACK BELLIED PLOVER (4, but others had 5 later)
Killdeer (4, volleyball area)
Sanderling (5, briefly seen & then gone)
Ring Billed (~150) & Herring (6) Gulls
Cooper's Hawk (1)
Rock Pigeon (3)
Chimney Swift (4)
Red Bellied Woodpecker (1)
Downy Woodpecker (1)
Flicker (3)
Eastern Pewee (1)
Least Flycatcher (1)
Eastern Phoebe (1)
Chickadee (3)
RED BREASTED NUTHATCH (1)
Ruby Crowned Kinglet (1)
Robin (5)
Brown Thrasher (1)
Starling (2)
PHILLY VIREO (1)
Tennessee Warbler (4)
Nashville Warbler (2)
Magnolia Warbler (4)
Cape May Warbler (2-3)
NORTHERN PARULA (1)
Bay Breasted Warbler (2)
Blackpoll (6)
Redstart (7, including two red males)
Black & White (1)
Palm Warbler (2)
Yellow Rumped Myrtle Warbler (5)
BLACK THROATED BLUE (2-M, giving great looks)
Black Throated Green (2)
Ovenbird (1)
Common Yellowthroat (1-M)
Cardinal (3)
While Throated Sparrow (4)
Goldfinch (8)
House Sparrow (10)
So 44 species at Montrose plus roadside Mourning Doves for a day's total of 45.
I don't like repeats for top bird but we had such great looks at the
male Black Throated Blues that they again make Bird-Of-The-Day.
Runners-Up will be the Parula & the Philly Vireo.
Several birders had 5 or 6 species of Sparrows today but I only
managed to see White Throats, shame on me! Again there were too many
birds seen by others but not by me for me to list.
