to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,
I wanted to see if any migrants remained this late in May at the
Botanic Garden but only found two & both were shorebirds on the
mudflats. All other birds were Summer or year round residents.
Chicago Botanic Garden (7:30-11:30 am)
Great Blue Heron (1)
Great Egret (1)
Canada Goose (12)
Mallard (6)
Killdeer (4)
Spotted Sandpiper (2)
Semipalmated Sandpiper (6)
WHITE RUMPED SANDPIPER (1, slightly late)
Herring Gull (1 fly-by)
Caspian Tern (3)
Osprey (1, on the nest platform)
Mourning Dove (6)
Kingfisher (1-F)
Willow Flycatcher (H-1)
Purple Martin (~25, all at or near the west side nest boxes)
Tree (6), Rough Winged (2) & Barn (12) Swallows
Blue Jay (2)
House Wren (H-1)
Blue Gray Gnatcatcher (2, together)
Robin (~25)
Catbird (1)
Starling (2)
Warbling Vireo (5)
Yellow Warbler (2)
Common Yellowthroat (1)
Cardinal (3)
Savannah Sparrow (1)

So 37 species at the Garden plus roadside Pigeons for a day's total of 38.
Bird-Of-The-Day will be the White Rumped Sandpiper & Runners-Up will be
the Osprey & the Kingfisher.
