Hello Bird People,
Waited until the rain stopped & then arrived at Montrose at 6:50 am.
Covered the beach for about one hour & then spent over an hour trying
to locate the male Hooded Warbler in the Hedge Area. This was no easy
task as although it was singing constantly it was very, very hard to
see. This caused my overall list to suffer as I spent so much time
warbler searching.
Montrose Beach (6:50-8 am)
MUTE SWAN (5, flying south past the protected beach, spotted by Demond)
Killdeer (3)
Piping Plover (2)
Spotted Sandpiper (2)
Semipalmated Sandpiper (1)
Sanderling (1)
Dunlin (1 & later 2)
Ring Billed (125) & Herring (3) Gulls
Caspian Tern (3)
Purple Martin (4)
Tree (1), Bank (~20), Rough Winged (6) & Barn (1) Swallows
Hedge Area (8-10:15 am)
Canada Goose (12) & Mallard (1-F)
Downy Woodpecker (1-M)
Eastern Pewee (1)
Chickadee (2)
Robin (12-15)
Starling (4)
Warbling Vireo (2)
Yellow Warbler (2)
Common Yellowthroat (H-2)
HOODED WARBLER (1-M, easy to hear but hard to see)
Cardinal (4)
Red Wings (5)
Grackles (~20, many feeding young)
Goldfinch (1)
House Sparrow (~15)
So 31 species at Montrose plus 2 roadside additions for a total of 33
species for the day.
Bird-Of-The-Day to the difficult to see Hooded Warbler & Runners-Up to
the fly-by Mute Swans & the late Sanderling.
