to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,
Well today was the last day of January 2026 & I'm glad it's over as
the last 10 days or so were a disaster with snow, cold & wind. Let's
hope February is better weatherwise!
Today I mainly just did another feeder watch at Ryerson although I
also looked at other parts of the place by car. Nothing special at the
feeders as the Purple Finches did not appear today while I was there.
Ryerson C.A. Feeders (10:05-11:45 am)
Canada Goose (1 fly-by)
Rock Pigeon (2)
Mourning Dove (only 1, I had over 20 last time)
RED HEADED WOODPECKER (2)
Red Bellied Woodpecker (4)
Downy Woodpecker (1-M & 1-F)
Hairy Woodpecker (1-M)
Blue Jay (H-1)
Chickadee (4)
W.B. Nuthatch (2)
Robin (2, parking lot)
Cardinal (1-M & 1-F)
Junco (5)
GOLDFINCH (1, very rare at the feeders this Winter)
House Sparrow (6)
So 15 species at Ryerson plus roadside Starlings for a day's total of 16.
Bird-Of-The-Day to the Red Headed Woodpeckers & Runners-Up to the
Goldfinch & the
Hairy Woodpecker. No awards to the Purple Finches which were "no shows" today.
License Plate of the Day to one from South Carolina.
