Integrating on- and off-campus services

Paul Edminster from Gonzaga University posed this question:

"I have been wrestling with something for months: Does my department
need to compete with highly functional, easy to use, free online
services or can I use them to our advantage?"

We have been having the same discussion, here. I am using off-campus
services to prototype a number of features, but haven't finished
evaluating them as robust, sustainable services.
