Senate Representatives in BOG

Shortly name of 2 Senate representatives will be decided to represent Senate in Board of Governor (BOG). The Senators will appreciate that in a democratic system a true representative of the Senate (Faculty members) should be sent in the BOG. The unwritten rules followed in IIT Kanpur (known to have the most proactive Senate in all IITs) is that

1.       The Senate representatives in BOG should not be from administration as there is clash of interest. As administrator the person has to defend decision of administration. Whereas as Senate representative he is expected to be rational, logical, legal and transparent. This may force him to be critically examining administration working and comment emphatically.

2.       The Senate representatives are elected (as was done for Syndicate in UOR system) by the Senators.

I request the Senators to kindly don’t let go the opportunity to send your true representatives in BOG in the large interest of society and the system. The representative should not be holding or aspire to be holding administrative position during the term in BOG. Also Senators may be from any cadre (Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor) because more important is that he is rational, logical, legal and transparent.

Everyone can't become Director/Dean etc. Hence compromising self-esteem for petty gains is not in larger interest of the system. Let the IITs faculty tag be bigger than anything.
