Dear Colleague,

Two years have been very eventful. By 2011 election, the Faculty Forum became a forgotten body and only 4 nominations were received against 9 posts. In 2 years, Faculty Forum has been made a completely charged body. We have at least one nomination for each post in present election.

If I look back, by 2011, the resolution of FF meetings, started coming from the main building. It was only read as resolution of the Forum. If any executive member tried to speak against the resolution he was getting direct phone call from the administration. The executive members were first lured than threatened (many became Warden/Chief Warden).

In my opinion, Faculty Forum had to confront the administration if the issues are kept pending for long or if there is a bias. If administration is doing everything proactively in a transparent and objective manner then there is no need of any Forum. But this generally doesn’t happen.

Then there are two options one is to use position of Faculty Forum for personal gain only and the other one is to confront administration and ask for a transparent and objective dealing with all faculty without bias (this will be at self-cost if not supported by Faculty).

I believe that for any undeserving gain one has to pay from his self-respect. And some may not like to do that.

There are some important issues, started by me at local level and at Federation level, not completed so far. I expected them to get resolved in last term but reviving the Forum from the rock bottom took significant time. Hence, the agenda spilled over 2 years. I expect to get resolved the issues, in the next term, which I started such as:

1.   An independent redressal system like Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) for IIT staff. Presently an internal redressal system is working that means those who are putting charge are investigating and giving judgment.

2.   Cash less medical treatment was the next step after CGHS (implemented in IITR). I was asked at IIT level and at Federation level to give modalities of Cash less implementation.

3.   Objective, transparent and creditable faculty selection system is still far away. IIT Faculty Federation has also shown concern on this.

4.   The stand taken by FF in case of humiliation of the Head of Department must be in the mind of all. Faculty Forum has to first insure the self-respect of all Faculty.

5.   Still much is left to be done to bring IIT culture in IITR. Our new generation will definitely bring this culture if given opportunity. The otherwise disappearing British style protocol in administration must go. Director in any IIT wander around in campus like any other faculty. But in IITR even the Thompson Marg which was kept open in University era is closed for security reason.

Please come for vote and support.
