Excerpts from your mail:
Previous EC has done nothing.
Present EC has done nothing.
FF is an useless body and can do nothing.
I will not contest elections or take part in EC as I am not interested
When you don’t have confidence in the body and yourself you don’t want to contribute, what is the point in criticizing it and wasting your valuable time.
Whatever I can do for faculty can be done in several ways. (I would like to know what you have done and whenever you do it in future)

President FF

As mentioned by Prof. S.K. Ghosh, the GBM was trying to establish you and your EC for the next election. IT is clear example of cheap politics.
Last time I was forced to contest by well-wishers. My ghost frightened some people who wanted to show their loyalty to administration and tried everything that I don’t come.
This time so far I have no inclination to contest but I see by Ghost is already frightening people and that is my achievement. I again don’t claim for anything I have done except bringing reputation to Faculty Forum and to the post of President. Otherwise FF was being run from main building. Bringing respect to FF and its Head is responsibility of all Faculty members. If you criticize Faculty Forum and its Executive and don’t come forward you are diluting the Forum strength.
If you think Director has done everything and will do in future also then sit down and relax and directly write mail to him and meet personally to solve your issues. Why bothers for other.
You said you don't have time but I see you have lot of time to prove your loyalty.
Kamal Jain
President FF
This is the same point I am saying time and again.
The Faculty Forum failed to deliver over years in all directions. I list a few of them.
1. Tenders are called for installing AC in all offices. This is the decision of Director. FF has nothing to do with it. Most of the faculty aware that, Director took this decision based on the input he had from some members and his own experience in IIT-B. Not only on this. Many other issues, Director takes decision wherever he feels there is academic advantage. May be, the term academic advantage has his own definition.
2. If any one has problem, at present stage they can approach the Director by appointment or through email. He replies or reacts, if he feels it is fit. Again, he considers the academic atmosphere in the front. I am sure, if an individual faculty cannot convince this Director, then FF makes no sense.
3. The appointment of Deans and Chairmen of various committees. The present FF president claims, that it is his (their) achievement. Every one knows that Director makes the changes whenever he feels it is required and the person in whom he has faith. This is not the effect of FF. It is his own wisdom that makes.
*** I am not supporting Director. I may have my own reservations on them. But I am just placing the facts.
4. The rules for moving to PB4 is not made clear. Whenever faculty member asked for explanation, individual details and comparisons are given. The clear cut rules are not known to all faculty members. You ask every member; they have their own versions. FF failed to provide the complete details.
5. The House allotment rules keep changing. Rules come into effect after advertisement. HAC finds justification for it. Faculty members cry foul on this. FF did nothing. Some faculty wanted to change the residence before Holi, which was promised falseley by the present president of FF. But it has not materialized in reality, that everyone knows.
6. The FF is claiming that they have done something for the Hospital cashless facility. I already, several times in the past 7 years gave better proposals, which I have seen in Anna University (which the secretary of the past FF also knows). But did nothing. The present improvement in Hospital system are not due to FF. Everyone knows who is behind making these better decisions.
7. PRIS is in the consideration of MHRD. It is there for several years and it is compelled by inter IIT Federation and IIT-R FF has nothing to do with it. Further, many of us are sure that nothing concrete will come in PRIS for IITs in near future.
8. In the sixth pay commission issues, the past FF could do nothing beyond the proposal and decision of MHRD.
What else they claim for? Any help to individual faculty on their issues? Shall I speak about this point, wherein faculty had several problems and FF could do nothing, except listening to stories and spreading rumours.
Yes, I agree that, in a big society we need to have an association to say that we have representatives. FF is one such rubber-stamp representative body and not anything more than that.
As I repeatedly saying, I am ready for open debate. You people did not answer them.

Dear Colleagues,
In my opinion FF is a very important body. It is a democratic institution, it maintains checks and balances of the system. If the executive body is there to deliver the objectives then body like FF is there to look into the fact whether it is delivering in the right way or not, if there is some anomaly it must immediately draw the attention of the executives of the wrong and make people aware of the fact. Its existance is very important in the democratic functioning of the Institute. However, sometimes the body is used for some wrong purposes where its credibility gets lost, in that case general faculty memeber must cry foul and rectify it. If some indivdual member of the body thinks it is not doing its job, s/he must draw the attention of all the faculty memebers in the specific case where it has gone wrong. One must say specifically what exactly has gone wrong, instead of abusing the body itself generally .
