Lemme share my IIML GD/PI experience:

Some background info.: IIML was the last one of my GD/PIs and since, i
wasnt too keen outside A and C, it was pretty chill. Also, A and C
interviews had gone decently well. So, that translated into me going
for this interview without any sort of preparation at all (just making
enough excuses to justify the dumb answers later :P )
L and I had schedule the interview on the same day and cos I had like
14% attendance, I didnt get it shifted lest I shud lose another day of
classes.
Upon reaching the venue, I could not find my call letter and was gonna
be chucked out when by some stroke of luck, a letter came out from
between my certis and thus, began the most horrible GD/PI experience
for me.
I had already made friends with most people in my group since all of
us had been together for A and C interviews. So, GD was pretty chill.
GD topic was "First myth of management is that it exists". Couldn't
make head and tail of the topic for first 5 mins <others were as
confused or so it seemed by their looks> we were supposed to write abt
it for 10 mins...so ended up scribbling sth. You can always take up
someone's argument in the GD and build on it. I did exactly that and
ended up doing decently.
I had Indore interview same day and so, i requested the profs to slot
me upfront. They looked at me and said "YOU wanna come first? Sure
<devilish smile>" I knew I was in for a tough time.

There were two profs: Crazy guy (C) and Kool Guy (K)

C: What do you know about IRDA? <not even "take a seat, rahul" or "how
are you today?">
Me: <politely> I'm afraid I dont know anything
C: Okay, speak on insurance sector in india for 1 minute
Me: May I take a moment to organize my thoughts? <typical CL stunt>
C: sure <hint of sarchasm>
after 25 secs of silence....
C: Leave it, Leave it. <wtf?> You are metallurgical engineer. You know
TATA Steel?
Me: <yo baby> YES SIR
C: What is the production on TATA Steel?
Me: <of all the things he cud ask, this is what I get> Not the exact
figure but i can work it out.
Lets see....India's steel production is blah blah <remembered from a
course in 2nd year>. TATA steel's share is blah blah <guesstimate>.
These figures are 2 years old. Assuming a growth rate of blah blah
<some 5-10% figure works usually>, it must be somewhere around blah
blah. (showing analytical skills might fetch more marks than showing
current awareness)
C: per day???
Me: <do i look like a fool?> PER YEAR
C: Ohhkay...Do you know about Infosys?
Me: Yeah <almost expecting a question on no. of coffee vending
machines in bangalore offices>
C: When was Infy founded?
Me: <1981, 82?? what was it?> Early 80s sir
C: <waving his hands> being founded through the 80s...hehe!
K:Who's the CEO of Infy?
Me: Nilekani <oh yess...im on the board>
K: What do you think of Indian IT sector's growth story?
Me: <I like this guy man> This and that...decent answer. The answer
somehow ended in Growth and development
K: Whats the difference?
Me: Traditional definitions. My views are a lil different though.
K: I'd like to hear them.
Me: Told him what I thought of economic growth that wasnt inclusive.
how welfare might be different from rising incomes
K: <impressed by the answer> Nods in agreement

Meanwhile, C flicks thru certis...picks out sth and shows it to K.
Both smile again.
C: You have done economics? (L ppl love this part) Whats the law of
marginal utility?
Me: <I know marginal utility alright, dont think there is a law or
sth> Define marginal utility. Then shifted to ice cream-burger example
to illustrate law of diminishing marginal utility.
C: <tongue in cheek> Then what is law of diminishing marginal utility?
Me: Confused expression
C: What are isoquants?
Me: <just wanted to leave> Didnt put fight to tell them in spite of
knowing stuff, C was getting on my nerves
C: Chuck it, Chuck it...you also have done BM-301. Leader versus
Manager questions
Me: Global Gyaan
C: You think Sonia Gandhi is a leader or a manager. What abt Manmohan
Singh?
Me: Global Gyaan
C: So, Sonia Gandhi is not a very strong manager. What do you think
about the budget? (interview was in march)
Me: esops, this and that...weak budget <dunno why i said that>
C: ONE weak point?
Me: some fatta regarding inflation curbing measures. Was gonna talk of
supply side constraints when I was RUDELY stopped.
C looks at K midway thru the answer and nods..then nods looking at me.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH Rahul.
Take your certis.
Me: thank you sir.

The worst out of 5 PIs i had. Heard later, they were arbit in most
interviews, prolly trying to stress out people.
Surprisingly, i converted this one. Dont know what they are looking
for cos I wudnt have selected MYSELFin L.

Moral of the story: They want you there. Just dont do something
extreme. Read up on economics and a bit of current events. Good Luck!

Will share other PI experiences over the next week. Lets make
different threads for different PI experiences.

Regards,
Rahul

After goin thru Rahul's experience, I couldnt resist writing mine

all arbit Questions like...when was RBI established, when was Powai Lake formed? <wtf...may b it rained heavily on some day n it was formed>
I WAS told that with my kinda knowledge, i would not be able to do anythg in life, but i managed to get a final admit fromL :D

Had mad a mistake in writing my SGPAs (wrote CG instead) and was told that i cant even fill  a 2 page form properly...n with all this i managed

Only time they were happy was after looking at my SG for 4th yr final term

So i have similar views...they want u..pls dont make any blunder
b confident...they might ask arbit Qs and utter all arbit stuff, but u need not worry
try to keep your cool and answer the questions to the best of your abilities
