Hi aspiring managers (refers to CAT '07 call getters),

Since most of us are enrolled in CL, I dare suggest that we should agree on a preferred date for the Boot Camp. Since there are only 2 options available i.e . this weekend and the next, I personally would prefer having it the next weekend coz i feel this weekend will be way too soon as we have hardly had any time to brush up (if I may use the term). We've just had 2 classes and I guess they give you some kind of feedback report at the end of the boot camp, which is quite consequential. So I guess it would be best if we give ourselves another extra week for getting our wits about us for the best possible feedback. Wotsay, others?

Also, can anyone disclose the venue of the camp? Or are we going to some highy confidential base camp in Area 51?

I was just browsing through the websites of other coachings. IMS is organizing its version of the boot camp - Achievers Workshop in Delhi this weekend. The fees is a mind-boggling Rs. 8000. Any takers? I hope the existing managers (abhishek, sugeet,RC,manu et al) can throw some light on this. Is it actually worth it? TIME has its workshop on the 2nd n 3rd of Feb. I guess some of us who were enrolled in TIME this year can vouch for its benefit quotient.

For the record, my IIM-K interview is on the 19th of Feb (too early :( )

Sugeet had some interesting suggestions for us. I guess we can really work on the daily GD thing (if we can fix up a time of meeting in the library or something of that sort). Since, I have the keys to the SAC office, I guess I can exercise a bit of unscrupulousness and use it for this "noble" purpose, if sufficient number of people are willing. Wotsay?

About the Boot camp
The venue for the boot camp has always been this guest house(sic) in Manesar(On delhi-Jaipur Highway)

We all hv to collect at some place in Delhi.....and after tht its Cl's responsibility

As of the GD thing, I think it would be a great idea to practice it
may be we should all gather around in the SAC office, courtesy PDM....thanks!!!, say after 6 pm every day, or atleast 4 times a week,  maybe only for about 30-40 minutes
This will give us a lot of practice and confidence before the D-DAYZZZZ

what say ppl????

The Gd thing is defintely a gud idea nd the venue is not a problem. I believe we can have it in UGES, deptt lawns, LBS(if sitting on the grass is acceptable). Of course it would be best if we can get the SAC office for this purpose.

yup, that getting together thingy is a great idea :) it wud be great if we cud have GDs everyday. I suggest Nescafe as a venue if PDM cant manage the SAC office (nothing like our very own private space, will u be arranging for some unscrupulous refreshments too :P i heard SAC ppl have a tie up with alpahar too :D ) anyway, we shud start this off asap since he interviews seem to be happening earlier than usual this year and we do not have much time, what say we start tmrw itself...i'm all for it. u name the time and the place..

Hi,

What I feel is - your point of attending the boot-camp next week is pretty valid. You guys would get a bit of practice. As I recall, we too attended the second boot-camp that was conducted by CL, around 26-27th Jan (the first one was conducted by them a week earlier..) The camp last year was held an Delhi-Jaipur highway, about 150 kms from Delhi.. There are a number of nice resorts there and CL usually conducts there..(far from the madding crowd :)) For us, they charged just 500 bucks per person (for travel expenses, etc.) and the entire trip was managed by them. For non-CL students too, I guess the fees was just 500 bucks only as they want students to opt for their boot-camp.

Well, for the TIME bootcamp, I dont think shelling out 8K is worth it, simply because considering the high fees many people wont opt for it (but I am sure fees would be low for TIME students..) and if there aren't sufficient people (or call it studd level people) there, you wont get the kind of experience you should get..

Bulls' eye conducted a bootcamp which I didnt attend (coz my B interview was already over, Feb 12th..) which was supposedly free.. check that out as well.. 1 CL boot camp and 1 more if possible should be sufficient enough + your normal preparation..

@ Sheetal - the venue for the boot camp would not just be a (sic) guest house, it would be awesome! :) CL does spend a lot of money on that! In fact, as I recall, they made us stay in rooms for which the resort used to charge some 3600-4000 bucks per day! You'l enjoy the experience..

And I suggest that have your GD practice sessions in a room or something, rather than having in mere open.. just a suggestion..And 1 more thing - CL Dehradun centre has 2-3 good faculty members, we went there just once for practice but on weekend try and get that arranged.. Dehradun guys would help you in ur GD/interview preparation even better..

Keep dreaming.. :)

Hi,

Nice to see the replies pouring in :)

Thanks abhishek for resolving yet another query for us (the socrates of the grp :P). just this afternoon, we had a CL class and the guy (I dont know his name) was mentioning about how you had a rather rough boot camp but then came out trumps. I guess all of us can do well to take a leaf out of your book.

Enough of the sycophancy :P, I guess SAC office would be the best venue for the simulated GDs. It is a closed room, quite secluded from the hustle and bustle of Nesci and other places, and has a fair number of seats, though, I consider it my duty to forewarn you of the dust and the attic-smell there (since it is rarely used). I wont be available tomorrow because of an EDC event (which I would suggest all of those interested in entrepreneurship, to attend coz its theme is "How to write a B-Plan"). But we can start off day after.

@navneet, I can arrange for refreshments but I won't coz then the conditions wouldn't be simulated. I guess they dont offer you refreshments in IIM GDs :P

I dunno if the boot camps are free because the IMS site very categorically mentioned about the fees thing. If anyone else has any info, please do share it. And TIME enrolled guys, please find out info about its wrkshop and do let the others know.

Also, please share your preferred dates for the boot camp (or lets discuss in the class tomorrow). Reading abhishek's views, i feel its best to go for it the next weekend.

Keep the ball rolling :)

Hi..

I dont know who the guy is, is it the same person who is IITR Architecture passout? if he is the guy, do have sittings with him, his business awareness is TERRIFIC! And is that army-officer-wife still there as Roorkee centre head? :D Damn her arrogance.. :-| but as long as ends are good, fine..

My boot camp interview was quite ok.. best part is you get to know of your weaknesses.. I remember Rahul had a rather rough bootcamp i'view (Chaudhary, remember Dhody? :))

Btw, you can have refreshments along with your GDs as well coz IIM-B GDs (case-studies) mein you'll have cookies/candies placed on the table for you.. B rulesss :) But jaate hi room mein, dont eat them :D

Mostly, what happens is - profs mostly offer those candies to girls at the end of their i'views.. sad for guys :P

Yahaan padhai mein mann toh lagta hai nahi, so I feel I should do atleast something constructive by answering your queries :)

1 more thing - when you practice GDs, at the end of it, also practice writing "summary" (in paragraph format, no points) as you would have to write summaries in B for sure (overall 10% weightage) and in other interviews as well.. L would give a topic and would ask you to write on it first for about 5 minutes and then start the GD (that was the pattern last year)..

Regards,
Abhi..shek!

IMS has a GDPI Prep cum Achiever's Workshop also... the fee for that
is about 1k (for ppl with IIM calls)... the thing is... if you join
the Achiever's Workshop only, you need to pay 8000 odd, but if you
join the GDPI prep thing also, you can get the whole package at
1000...

No Greetings here since I dont concur with your remarks about the
wonderful faculty at CL Roorkee center [:P]
Puneet Kahlon aka that army-officer-wife is a seasoned campaigner, she
definitely knows about the GDPI process inside out and you all could
benefit from her advice. She used to moderate our GDs and apart from
chipping in with her comments about the topic, she made accurate
remarks about the soft skills of people involved. Do a few GDs with
her and Sanjay Sir, the archi guy. He has been prep. for GMAT for some
time now and knows his stuff. If some of you are uncomfortable with
any topic, ask him to take a session starting from basics. We
benefitted a lot from that.

Yeah...the Boot Camp. I had a nice boot camp since the interview was
well tailored for me. Dhody@CL was successful in making me lose my
cool in the PI and the lesson learnt there served me well therafter.
Talking of Bansal's boot camp <ahem...lets have another forum to
discuss that!>, that was good fun. Make sure you people take feedback
from whoever is giving it. Whether you wanna implement it or not comes
later.

Coming to candies/cookies, Its sad to hear about the gender
discrimination at B [:P]. However, all those with A calls have
something to cheer about: you get candies at A interviews as well! I
still remember mine, no coffee bite has ever tasted better [:D]

Funny thing about L GD: they ask you to write first, talk later. Funny
cos people end up saying everything but what they wrote in the
beginning. Exhibit A: Topic for L GD for me was "First myth of
management is that it exists"
We spent half the time debating if the "it" referred to the myth or
management itself. Half the people had blank sheets after 4 mins and
just managed to scribble something in the end.

Sometimes, you will be asked to summarise the discussion...Do NOT put
in anything from you own thoughts unless you delivered it to the
group. Just write about how the discussion went.

Lets have some more questions guys. Hope everyone has started with the
prep. If you have not, there's nothing to worry cos there have been
precedents [:P] Get started with GDs immediately...we could help you
with topics if you like.

Regards,
Rahul

Oyee, CL faculty ke liye senti.. kya baat hai.. :D

Yeah, I agree that she knows GD/PI process well and in fact, I benefitted a lot from a couple of sittings with her regarding interviews.. GDs were of course beneficial. My point was actually she used to implement that army-funda in CL as well as times :P.. I remember her making me go all the way back to hostel twice just because I didnt have that CL I-card for getting their PDP package and second time she wanted to see some receipt or something..!

Overall, she was <quote>good<unquote> :D And ya, surely agree regarding Sanjay's calibre and GD summarization..

Btw, a gender discrimination at that 'candies' stage might hurt for IIMB interview, but once you are inside an IIM, then I am sure the gender ratio at IIM-A hurts much more than it hurts any guy at B..Ouch! :P

Abhi..shek!

PS: @RC - Amreen Sodhi ka baddy match miss kar diya yaar :( Wanted to watch that :P

Will concede on the gender ratio point since I have "seen" it now
[:D].

Sodhi ke liye senti matt ho, already taken types. Dont think too much
just as I dont think of Mansi anymore [:P]
We better stop now lest we should spam another meaningful forum.
