I've made a writeup to be sent to various groups of IIT alumni, and graduating students. It's a bit long, but communicates what we do here at Sea6 very well. Do give me your feedback
Hi
We're Sea6 Energy, a group of IIT <Madras> alumni who started out two years ago with a vision of finding a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. With a dream of making the oceans into the energy farms of tomorrow. And we're doing this through developing technologies to cultivate the ocean. Literally, taking agriculture from the land to the sea. The plants we use are a bit different though, and they're called seaweeds, which grow utilizing the sunlight, carbon dioxide, seawater and ocean nutrients. The seaweed is then subjected to proprietary biochemical conversion processes to yield biofuel.
Here, we work on both the ocean farming platform as well as the bioconversion technology. On the ocean farming side, we're developing a low-cost, large scale floating mesh structure to cultivate the seaweeds, along with systems to operate and handle such large volumes of biomass on the ocean surface. What is unique about the structure is that it is inherently flexible, which enables it to adapt to the varying contours of the water surface. These modules would potentially cover several acres of the ocean surface, possibly becoming the largest man-made structures on the ocean. For bioconversion, we've partnered with Novozymes, the worlds largest enzyme producer, to facilitate process development. (

these fields.
We're looking at people with a strong background in mechanical engineering and design to be an integral part of the Ocean Farming division. This would involve engineering low cost floating cultivation structures designed to withstand harsh offshore conditions. You would also be involved in designing systems for operating such a large structure offshore and managing the logistics of handling seaweeds while dealing with the problem of working on the ocean surface. We are looking for people who are excited by the diverse nature of the problem, who are not afraid of learning new skills and who love getting their hands dirty when needed. The issues you will work on can vary from concept design and prototype fabrication, to material studies and industrial engineering, just to name a few. We've also got a lot of site visits in store for you, so people who are averse to working at beautiful beaches next to sparkling waters, beware!
