Dear all,

I have ubuntu 7.04 installed on my inst. PC. It keeps on printing multiple copies even if asked for only one. The printer is HP 2300. I checked on windows from the same PC, it works nicely. So no faults from the printer side. This happens only for the last few days. Earlier it worked nicely.

Urgent help is appreciated.

Hi Mayur,

Is the number of multiple copies same? It might then mean that there
is some configuration error on your side in Linux. Remember that even
if you restart after giving a job, that job is queued and gets printed
after a reboot too. Please identify if there are any print jobs
queued. "CUPS" is the print handling software in Linux so use this
keyword when you google for something. CUPS provides a web-based
interface to manage printers as well as jobs. Try opening
http://localhost:631 in a browser on your machine. See if you can find
anything interesting there. I am not running Ubuntu here right now so
can't give you exact steps to check this out.

Also, please thoroughly explore if number of copies in the print
dialog is not set to more than 1 :)

Dear Sharad,

Really missing you on this occassion... I tried my level best, but it
did not work. Let me describe what is exactly happening : Whenever I
give say only a single page to print, it prints the same page
countably infinite (though I have not counted!) times. When I give a
multipage job, it keeps on printing 1st page those many times. (I have
never known when would the turn of second onward pages come!!!) What I
do now, as an ad-hoc solution is as follows: Keep just one page in the
tray. Give Print command. It prints it first time (this is what I
wanted), and shows "Tray Empty" error. I press the "RED" button to
cancel the job. Then I go for the next page printing..... Really very
tedious way!
[Note: Before this problem started appearing, there was a problem that
it was not printing duplex jobs (Both sides). I had "solved" this
problem by first printing all even pages and then all odd, manually.]

regards,
Mayur
