ubuntu ultimate sound problem

i have a laptop , compaq presario cq62 104 tu, when i installed ubuntu
ultimate 2.1 its sound does not work.
but with with the help of headphone the sound work. so what i have to
do please reply.

Go to sound preferences and select the appropriate settings under Hardware tab.

It may not be that simple in these cases... though I do hope it is so

open terminal and write the command      alsamixer  
check all the outputs are at maximum

aplay -l
lspci -v
cat /proc/asound/version
