Ubuntu 9.04 related software

Hi,
I am the new user of Ubuntu 9.04. I am wondering if you could help me with the sites address where I can find softwares and Plugin for Ubuntu.

Like : MPEG 4 AAC decoder (Needed to play MPEG 4 format files)
        : MPEG 1 Layer 3 (MP3) Decoder
         : H 264 Decoder
  Etc.
Further i would like to know if I can play TV on Ubuntu as i was doing in windows using TV tuner Card.

Looking for assistance..

Hi Pankaj Welcome to Ubuntu......

System->Administration->Synaptic Package Manager

It contains all the software packages which a normal user needs.......

You should have net and then just select the software You wanted.

It will download the package and install automatically:)

You have nothing to worry....

  Etc.

I think VLC will solve your decoder problems, which is available in Synaptic Package Manager.

If you dont want to use vlc.....

Just click on the movie file you want to see......it will automatically search plugins and install it......

Further i would like to know if I can play TV on Ubuntu as i was doing in windows using TV tuner Card.

I have never used this thing, neither in windows or GNU/LINUX

But still in Ubuntu there are lots of options......

And have a look at MythTv  just search in synaptic package manager....

first of all edit your source.list file located in /etc/apt/
just uncomment few lines, you can see attached source.list file
give the command
sudo apt-get update
for the codecs to be  install give the command in terminal
sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly gstreamer0.10-plugins-good
now you can play everything with your default player totem, additionally you can install vlc and mplayer
sudo apt-get install vlc mplayer

for installing other softwares/packages you can use synaptic package manager from menu system >> administrator >> synaptic package manager

You might want to get some extra codecs (w32codecs) from
www.medibuntu.com too although with gstreamer the above shall play.

If the linux kernel has the drivers for your card (or is available
through other means) you could use mythtv or xawtv.
