Hello everyone,

This may be really off topic to few people but I think its something that is worth discussing here. I was browsing through Rajasthan govt tenders website[0] and looking into IT tenders I was greatly surprised to see the type of work they outsource and the amount of money they waste mainly in reinventing the wheel, one the example is a tender to integrate Search engine in Rajasthan govt website , the estimated cost it shows is Rs. 12 lacs[1] :D  , there are all these tenders and these contractors create poor closed source solutions and get paid for all that. My concern is that this money can be used in developing schools, buying hardware etc.

So whats the solution ? The idea is to create a free and open source consultancy company/group for govt, which can advice govt in such decisions, even many tasks can be done voluntarily by students and developers, there is a need to create some such group. This is something which I think we can do.

Cheers

Hi,
your observation is correct. indeed Govt is wasting tons of money on
things which can be either done for free or with very little money.
The reasons behind this could be a) ignorance or lack of awareness on
side of Govt b) Corruption - these companies must be paying some
bribes to responsible officials to keep their eyes closed.

In any of two situation, we need a high placed point of contact in the
ministry of IT, who does understand all this and actually care.

I request to collect various data and links and put up in a article. we will publish it. We need to make a good write up against all these things instead of just saying -- "kya kare ye to sysem hai,,,"
You can also create wasteofmoney.in wiki where everyone can put their observation.

Ya publishing some stuff about this can be proved as a good initiative for the welfare of Indian govt.'s projects, talking about bright future but basically leading youth's future in dark.
