Hi

I installed kubuntu 10.04 on my Dell laptop as an independent install on it.(with Windoz 7 as dual boot). I installed it in a different partition than my windows partition.
I first logged in to kubuntu and then in windows. But after restarting again I got this error:

no module name found
Aborted. Press any key to exit.

<<After pressing a key>>
Copyright (C) 1997-2008 Intel Cooperation
For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller v2.0.2.3(06/18/10)

Check Cable Connection!
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
Operating System not found

I again tried installing kubuntu and everything worked fine for one time again. but then again this error appears. I tried installing it 3-4 times.
Even tried a full system recovery..same error still occurs.
What should I do, I am really stuck with this. Please Help!!!

incase the error i typed above is same then u need to purge ur nbd-client..this is a bug in the kernel module..here it has been debugged by us

alternatively once u boot into the kubuntu immediately do a dist-upgrade and hope that the ubuntu repos have fixed this bug

else u can fix it manually as we did in the thread i mentioned above

Happened with me as well on ubuntu. But started sometimes. I think it
had something to do with low RAM. So i installed Fedora on my desktop
instead.

I again looked at the error, it is not the same as you mentined. luckly when I used windows last I deleted the ubuntu partition via Disk Management in Win7.
So now I don't have anything except a fresh Win7 install on my system(recovery disc), so how do i rectify it now ? I just want windoz for the moment ?
Please Help...my system has been formatted 10 times now

In short I want to revert back my laptop to the original state....How can I do this now since reformatting with recovery cd doesn't help now.
I read the thread,  but now i don't have kubuntu installed anymore. I only need a way to remove the GRUB and replace it with the original MBR.
I can then install kubuntu safer way using EasyBCD I guess

Hopefully I am not flooding the list. But using SuperGrubDisk I am able to boot into my windows partition. Now can something be done to rectify the bootloader ?

Just informing, I finally recovered my MBR.
So finally I need a suggestion from those who landed in this problem before that how to go about installing ubuntu + win7 on Dell/HP ( I read that problems are due to there custom softwares) before I land up in another problem ?

Look at the link I posted. The page has a section on how to recover the windows 7 bootloader using the recovery disc. It uses two command line instructions.

I think this link might be useful. This is because I had the same problem recently and recovered my PC only last night.
You might need to burn a CD for system restore.

You can install Linux inside windows Or Windows inside Linux to avoid such problem.
window is erasing your grub. I do not know how, but it is erasing your grub. (may be a virus problem)

Reinstall ubuntu as you do but just before clicking install, click on "Advanced" and change the location of Bootloader to the partition where your ubuntu is being installed such as /dev/sda6 instead of /dev/sda. This preventRUB neing installed to MBR.
Then when installation finishes, log in to windows and add the entry "Ubuntu" from /dev/sda6 to windows boot loader.

Yes, if you are using windows that came preinstalled with your system there must be some application that need MBR access everytime you boot into windows like the one for data backups etc(removing them might also work).

When you have learned to snatch the error code from the trap frame, it will be time for you to leave.

If you do it properly then nothing will happen
Why don't you install Linux OS on USB stick ?

Yup. The second one is definitely possible. Just make your pendrive bootable and install ubuntu on it.
