Official Invitation | 2nd NALSAR Literary Festival

Dear Ma'am/Sir,

It is with great pleasure that I invite the students of your esteemed institution to take part in the second edition of the NALSAR Literary festival, a one of a kind literature festival that will be held on the 30th and 31st of July, 2016 at our campus in Justice City, Shameerpet, Hyderabad.

The primary aim behind presenting a Literary Festival from a Law School setting is to garner attention towards the fading focus on the Law and Society discourse. Literature is an important component of this discourse and hence there is an urgent need to increase engagement with literature in the legal community.

In its  first edition the Festival revolved around the theme of Literature and Dissent, with panels featuring eminent speakers such as Urvashi Butalia (author, The Other Side of Silence), Amit Chaudhuri (author: Odysseus Abroad), Deepa Dhanraj (documentary film-maker, Invoking Justice), Susie Tharu (Professor at English and Foreign Languages University).

This year, the Festival discusses issues of Free Speech through panels on Censorship and Freedom of the Press, and on Free Speech on Campuses, which will have eminent panelists such as Siddharth Varadarajan (Founder of The Wire), Kingshuk Nag (Regional Editor of the Times of India), Vasudha Nagaraj (advocate, AP High Court), Satish Chandra (professor, Osmania University), Sriram Karri (journalist), et al. 

The Festival will also include theatre, poetry, creative writing and crossword competitions, the details of which are enumerated in thedocument attached to this email. Do take note of the rules and registration requirements.

The Literary Festival is an integral part of the NALSAR calendar, and the entire student body is looking forward to the opportunity to interact and network with peers from other universities. In summary, it is an event that provides unique outreach opportunities - you can expect the halls to be packed with exceptionally bright young people, both from NALSAR as well as from other colleges along with theatre and literary stalwarts and professionals from various walks of life.
