*Hello Everyone,
STUDeCLUB and E-Cell are organising an interactive session on “Inspiring
Innovation and Technology at Grass-root Level” with Prof Anil Gupta, IIM-A.
http://www.iimahd.ernet.in/~anilg/
Prof Anil Gupta is a pioneer for “Grass-root level innovation”. His talk in
TED, Mysore can be seen at http://blog.ted.com/2010/05/06/indias_hidden_h/
Do be there if you are interested in participative learning and want to
make the best out of IIT. Prof Anil Gupta(IIM-A) and Prof Ganesh
Ramakrishnan(IIT-B) have floated Summer Projects for interested
enthusiastic students, who will be attending the session. The summer
projects can be seen at http://www.cse.iitb.ac.in/~ganesh/internships
Prof Gururajan from Material Science Dept and Prof Milind Sohoni from Comp
Science Dept floated some summer projects for first/second year students as
a follow up from our previous classroom connect sessions. This is a
continuation of our effort to provide students with a conducive environment
for their professional growth.
Date: 31 March 2012, Saturday
Venue: SIC 201, KReSIT (Big Class room, second floor)
Time: 2 pm-3:30 pm(30 min documentary+60 min discussions)
We shall be starting off with the session irrespective of the no. of people
present, so please be on time so as not to miss out on anything.
Please register if you are attending the session so that we can handle the
logistics better:

This is like a mini-conference where you listen to some ideas and then
discuss upon them, hence, it is advisable that you bring along a pen
and paper for taking notes for a better round of discussion and
following up on possible projects.
There will also be an institute colloquium by Prof Anil Gupta on Friday,
30th March in VMCC at 5:15PM. It will be beneficial for the students to
attend the talk since Prof Gupta will be discussing various other facets
there.
We are looking at the institute colloquium talk as a prequel to the iTED
discussion and the summer internships as a follow up so that the students
are able to have an extended meaningful engagement in this process.
Also do join our google group and go through the archives at
https://groups.google.com/group/p2pstudeclub for access to interesting
articles/videos etc which we keep sharing regularly.

About the Classroom Connect sessions:
------------------------------
STUDe Club IIT Bombay organizes group meetings every alternate Saturday
afternoon on various topics in science and technology, business and
innovation, Sports and Adventure, Arts and Culture, general Social Issues
and many other fields. The objective of these meetings is to inspire an
interest in all of us to learn and understand new ideas, find our
interests, and to explore the wonderful resources and learning
opportunities that IIT has to offer, even outside
its classrooms.
There is a video(45 min) presented on a topic, which infuses and
summarizes an idea, followed by a group discussion on the possible
applications and learning gained from it. These topics are wide in scope
and range, and can go from purely mathematical, like Fractals and
Mandelbrot Complex numbers, to something like capitalism in western
countries and it's impact on India.
We have organised 6 such sessions in this format and they have proved to
be very successful bringing in excellent participation from the
undergraduates and faculty members. We found them informative and
engaging, especially the group discussion following the video. Some
internships have also been coming out of these discussions. So this is
the next in the series and many more will follow.
