ABSTRACT:
Atmospheric neutrinos provide a natural source of a large neutrino flux
over a range of neutrino energies and path lengths. I will discuss how
these may be used for the extraction of presently unknown or largely
uncertain neutrino parameters, focusing on the determination of the
neutrino mass hierarchy using up-going atmospheric neutrinos and the
measurement of sterile-scale oscillation parameters using the down-going
atmospheric neutrino signal. This analysis is in the context of futuristic
atmospheric neutrino detectors like the India-based magnetized iron
detector ICAL and large Liquid Argon detectors.
