I have used
Google Classroom and Moodle through Gnomio.com
Following is my observation on its differences:
- Moodle is a Full fledged Learning Management System (LMS) as compared to Google Classroom which lacks some features of an LMS.
- Google Classroom is pretty easy to use and easy to start away directly as compared to Moodle.
- Creating a classroom and Joining it is very easy for both Teachers and Students. Whereas in Moodle it requires more steps to create a course and add users to it.
- Google classroom is free but GSuite for Education needs to be used. It can also be used from personal Gmail address but with some limited functionality.
- BUT in Google Classroom created in GSuite version you can only join those within your Gmail domain of your institute. Whereas in Moodle anyone can be added to any course through any email address and not only Gmail address.
- Google Classroom has limited question types for about 10 types like: Short answer, Paragraph, MCQs, Checkboxes, Dropdown, File upload, Linear scale, Multiple choice grid, and Checkbox grid. Where as Moodle also has other types like Drag and drop on text, Drag and drop on image, Crossword type puzzles, Snake and Ladder type games with quiz questions, etc. i.e. lots of innovative quiz types are there in Moodle.
- Google classroom is easy to manage whereas in Moodle a full time administrator is needed.
These are some of the Few. I would keep on adding to this thread for more updates on this.
My advice is that if you have GSuite for Education and are a beginner in using LMSes then prefer Google Classroom.
If you have taken the training of using or administering Moodle then that is the best LMS I have ever used.
