The objective of creating a Google group is to encourage interaction
between the members and also exchange of ideas between the members. I
find this group to be very inactive. We have around 20 members in the
group and no activity over the last two weeks.

I want some feedback from the group on the last two meetings about the
format and content so that we can effect improvements in the format
and content.

I exspect a feedback from each and every member in the group.

Cheers

Ravi

Dear Ravi,
I can respond provided there are querries from the group.
I used to run a newsletter called  ¨The Intelligent Investor"
( for close to a decade in the eighties in Chennai at RA Puram
before I joined the Institutions (UTI,GIC,Lazard) in Mumbai where I worked for more than a decade)
wherein at the beginning of publication of the newsletter, we had querries raised by X readers
who was the editor himself and replies were given by the editor.
We hope to get some querries by the interested members of the group.
Thanks
Anbu T Palanikumar

My $0.02:

  1. We need to identify a speaker and a topic for each session. In every session, we can also identify the next speaker and the topic, more on democratic fashion, if it fails, the leader can use the veto power in choosing the topic and speaker.
  2. The speaker can speak for about 25-30 mts, followed by q&a.
  3. Suggested topics:
    1. Derivatives trading
    2. Technical charts - stock trading
    3. Trading tips for 2012 - sector bias
    4. What is Europe financial crisis?
    5. Why Indian inflation now coming down, despite RBI intervention
    6. etc.....
Regards
Subbu

Dear Subbu,

In the first meeting it was suggested that a single speaker will make it look like that he is an expert and his views are kind of sacrosanct! But, I see that it is better to have a lead speaker and then follow it up with discussions, so that some material for thought is put in the group's minds .

First of all this is an excellent initiative and I thank Alamelu and team for this initiative.

I agree with Subbu – a lead speaker and a lead topic will create depth into the discussion and expand our knowledge base

Let us agree with Subbu's suggestion which make the entire session more structured, orderly and meaningful. Subbu has also given a set of relevant topics which are repeated below

    1. Derivatives trading
    2. Technical charts - stock trading
    3. Trading tips for 2012 - sector bias
    4. What is Europe financial crisis?
    5. Why Indian inflation now coming down, despite RBI intervention
    1. Day Trading a case study by Subbu
    2. Retirement planning fundamentals
    3. Insurance fundamentals
    4. Real Estate investment fundamentals
    5. Angel Investing
I request other members to add on more subjects. We need time to bring in experts to talk on specialised topics

Can we have the next month session on Derivative trading please?
Anbu/Sriram/Vijay   who is going to talk on this interesting  topic ?

Thanks for your offer. let me shoot off the first question?

What are infrastructure bonds and their tax implications? Which company's infrastructure would you recommend(IDFC  IFCI)?  How long would you like us to invest money in investment bond(5 years or 10 years)?  How much money can we invest over and above rs 20,000?

What are tax saving bond? How does this compare with Infrastructure bond? Which companies are going to offer tax free in the near future?

Which bonds do you recommend for people from different age group 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s?

    Cheers

If we do not have capabilities from within the group we can certainly call outside professionals. I can get somebody from Kotak mahindra  Mohan can get somebody from HSBC.

If you want to bring in an expert you are welcome to do so. I am afraid we may not be able to pay him except a momento and some snacks.

    Cheers

    Friends

A word of caution. Bank employees usually recommend the products that benefit their bank more than benefitting the investors - my experience.

may be others have had different experiences

    Ravi,

Capabilities apart, I thought a new face and a fairly well known personalities can spur some additional interest. That was the reason.

Thanks, let us invite knowledgeable speakers who could be from inside or outside. if any banker tries to sell his product, we are capable of calling his bluff.
If you can get somebody from a neutral body like tamilnadu Investor Association, it is most welcome.
