Hi,
Im joining IISc for my masters program this August and Ive been
allotted a room in e-block (1st floor).

I have a bike which I want to "park" in my room, when not in use. Is
this allowed?

Im apprehensive of parking it outside e block, afraid that it'll get
tampered with.

Regards,
Varun

You can even take it inside your room. *cough*

You can cite instances of theft of bicycle parts in case anybody complains.

ton guys.. :)

I did mean inside the room :) .

So I just lift my bike and carry it inside? (Seems too good to be
true :) ) The security guard at the entrance wont say anything?

No. Security explicitly requests you keep your bicycles in your room
if you fear for it. I disregarded their advice, and lost a saddle and
seatpost :(

I remember asking the security guard if there were any time
restrictions, etc. on my first day.

He laughed and said I would be stuck in lab till 4AM. Welcome to grad school.

P.S.: I store my bikes in my room, but try to take care that I don't
create extra work for the housekeeping staff. So I often lift my
bikes.

Hi Varun,

I am the authority for all e-block info here ;). I jus vacated it las week. let me tell you, e block is probably the safest block to park cycles in the whole of iisc. I have never heard a complaint from anyone about cycles there. One, there is always a lot of activity around the block; i consider that a good factor. thieves like isolated places better. the guard is more or less always roaming 'round the place, and keeps an eye on the stuff.

The best place to park outside the block may be at the far left, jus near the window of the medical store. I've been parking there for an year and hav had no problems. the cycle is protected partly from rain, except the real wheel.

I'd advise you not to try taking the cycl up, not only 'cos it's obviously difficult, but though e-block has a bigger room compared with other blocks, a cycle inside the room is like a second roommate. The whole of las year, no one brought their cycle inside.

Unless you have a very expensive cycl that'd attract eyes, all's well.
You can mail me if you hav any more queries 'bout e-bloc;). i was on the first floor too.
