Hi all,
I was looking through the decathlon webpage and came across two Triban
variants listed as Road touring bikes (RC520 and RC500)

At a glance these seem to be very sensibly specced bikes - Alloy
frame, Carbon-Aluminium fork - with fender *and* mid-blade rack
mounts!
Mechanical disc brakes, Shimano 11 and 9 speed drivetrains (105 and
Sora components?) with internal cable routing on the bars, and
clearance for upto 700Cx36 tires (is that with fenders? Can't say). My
only real gripe is the skinny 28mm tires that are stock.

The RC520 seems a little expensive at ~90k but the RC500 at ~55k seems
like a *really* good starting point for a light touring + brevet bike
- just add fenders and a couple of battery lights.

Thoughts?

Hi,
I have had a Triban 520 for over 2 years now (it cost a little less when I bought it) and I have found it really nice. I am not an expert on technical details, but would happily recommend it based on user experience.

Nice!
Are you running the stock tires? Have you added fenders?

Yes, I am running the stock tyres, which I find pretty nice. They are supposed to be puncture protect, and I have had one flat to date. I did not get mudguards (though I did get a stand and a carrier). The reviews I had read (mostly from the UK) and the description mention various tradeoffs for comfort - the drops are not too low, the tyres are a little thick etc., which should also be good for touring.

BTW
If anyone's looking for a "gravel" capable bike these days, this may interest you.
The Marin Nicasio was on sale from a number of vendors including Cycling Boutique Bangalore and Cyclop.in - for under 70k I think it's a good deal.
I've ridden a previous model and it's really good VFM. Lots of mountpoints, good clearances - really no deal breakers.

I think @Gokul D  owns a Marin Nicasio currently. He can speak more of it.
