Hello all,
Here's another SMBR Report / Submission:

Ride Distance: ~45km, Time:~3h
The SMBR challenge has been a nice motivation to get back into regular
riding - a good way to de-stress over the weekend. After a few ~20k
rides last month I felt ready to attempt 50k. After a little homework
on Google Maps + RideWithGPS I had a promising (scenic) route of 40+km
from the IIT-Dharwad Campus to Kittur Fort and back.

About the region:
This region is rich with historical significance: Rani Chennamma of
Kittur was subject to the Doctrine of Lapse after the death of her
husband in 1824. When the British tried to take over Kittur she fought
valiantly and inflicted heavy losses before she was captured and
imprisoned (briefly in Dharwad and later in Bailhongal Fort). Her
birth anniversary (Oct 23 1778) is commemorated by an annual event at
the Fort. The Fort is in ruins today - probably destroyed by the
british - but is quite well maintained by the state today. There is a
museum on site as well.

Ride report:
The weather was absolutely fantastic. A gentle cool breeze all
morning, no rain - couldn't ask for more. Part of the route was along
the highway (NH48 Bangalore-Pune highway) and I used the service lane
throughout - it is reasonably smooth and has almost no traffic in the
mornings. The rest of the route consisted of rural roads, partly state
highway, gravel/mud roads and even a tractor track (photos on strava).
It felt good enough to be an IISc Rando populaire route.
I had intended to maintain brevet pace - which I did without any
issues despite almost ~20 mins of sightseeing at the fort itself; and
a quick "breakfast" of buttermilk and coconut cookies at a Nandhini
booth.
I'm planning to rework the route into a proper 50k brevet and try it
out a few times over the next weeks.
