An attempt to dissect and explicate on the nitty-gritty of such a long
article is difficult. But, Dr Tharoor has set out an outline arguing
for the Presidential System as an effective alternate system for
Indian conditions.......and has done well to provide a summary of all
the past arguments and instances.

The pertinent questions to be answered by any article being:
1. Is our present system flawed beyond repair?
if yes, What are the contours of a better system and what is
the roadmap to transition to a better system.
If our system is flawed but, NOT beyond repair....How can it
be remedied? Is the British Parliamentary system different from ours
and has it also failed?

2. Is Presidential system suited for Indian conditions as practised
elsewhere in the world namely, the US.... Here again a comparative
study is necessary!

3. Which are the prevalent Systems of Democracy in vogue today? What
are the merits and demerits of each of them?

4. Can we have a HYBRID system which incorporates the best of all
systems concomitant with some new features specific to address the
INDIAN POLITICAL ECOLOGY?

====================================

PS :Not surprisingly, Dr Tharoor is languishing on the fringes today
.....may be his intellect overawes many of his own party colleagues.
Similar to A B Vajpayee, it may be said that Dr Tharoor is the right
man for NONE of the PARTIES......though BJP could be a better party
for Dr Tharoor where he can meet up with his COLLEGE FRIENDS - Dr
Chandan Mitra and Dr Swapan Dasgupta(though not formally a BJP member)

Being a die-hard BJP supporter(even its ideology of Integral Humanism
and Gandhain Socialism), I am pretty disappointed with the recent
actions of the BJP. Yes, the aim for any political party is to "get
to power", though this connotation of "coming to power" is ipso facto
a FLAWED CONSTRUCT in a Democracy!!
BUT, the BJP cannot EXPECT to RULE over an INDIAN CORPSE! Yes, the
Congress might be responsible for the DISRUPTION as it suits
them..But, the BJP should promulgate an ALTERNATE SYSTEM of GOVERNANCE
and a different NARRATIVE...It should not adopt the ways of the
CONGRESS!!!!
